Trailer Roundup: Morgan, Street Fighter, Bridget Jones and More

The year is half way over, but when it comes to film, movies, video games and other entertainment… the best is still yet to come. As always, our “Trailer Roundup” series provides a sampling of what’s coming soon each week for our pop-culture and multimedia-savvy readers. Here’s the latest and greatest:

    Morgan

The first full trailer for Morgan reveals an eerie look at the creation of a power superhuman that of course, goes horribly wrong. Produced by Ridley Scott, and helmed by son Luke Scott who is making his full length directorial debut. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular character along with Kate Mara, Rose Leslie, Michelle Yeoh and others. In Theaters on September 2nd.

Street Fighter V: A Shadow Falls

While the fifth installment of Street Fighter officially released back in February, it’s was purely a multiplayer endeavor. Developer Capcom has rectified this with a free bit of DLC that adds a single-player cinematic story mode to the game, available for download immediately.

    Bridget Jones’s Baby

The Bridge Jones trilogy will be complete this year, with the third film starring Renée Zellweger hits theaters on September 16. This time out, Bridget winds up pregnant after sleeping with two different guys and the film followers her adventures as she tried to figure out who the father is and decide who she actually wants the father to be.

The 9th Life of Louis Drax

Like a cat, a young boy has cheated death eight times, but the ninth accident (a fall from a cliff) leaves him in a coma, and doctors and family work to unveil the mystery of what happened. Starring Aiden Longworth, Aaron Paul, Jamie Dornan and Sarah Gadon. In theaters on September 2nd.

    Tallulah

New Netflix film Tallulah follows a young woman who struggles to survive, during her struggle to rescue a baby from a drug addled mother that she meets. The film stars Ellen Page and Allison Janney and is availble for streaming on July 29th.

    Stranger Things

Speaking of Netflix, there’s a second trailer now out for the 80s-style Stranger Things: a supernatural mystery in line with Spielbergian classics of that era. The show stars Winona Ryder and arrives for streaming on July 15th.

    BoJack Horseman: Season 3

America’s favorite washed up horse actor returns for a third season on Netflix on July 22nd. This season, BoJack returns to the spotlight with an Oscar-worthy film performance, which takes a whole new toll on his self-worth, friendships, and every other aspect of his life.

    Divorce

Sarah Jessica Parker returns to HBO for new show Divorce, co-starring Thomas Haden Church. The show follows Parker’s character as she decides that her life and marriage need reassessed, but isn’t able to quickly make a fresh start as she had first thought. No air date has been announced yet outside of “2016”.

    NHL 17

It’s nice and warm outside… so who’s ready for some hockey? This year’s roster update gets a new trailer ahead of the September 13 release date for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

    Just Dance 2017

Speaking of video game updates, this year’s installment in the Just Dance series got a new trailer this week, featuring new tracks from Major Lazer, Justin Beiber, Queen, PSY and more. Watch for it on October 25th on PC, Wii, WiiU, PlayStation 3 and 4 and Xbox 360 and One.

    Sully

Because every dramatic real life event deserves a dramatic theatrical retelling. Tom Hanks and director Clint Eastwood tackles the 2009 emergency landing of an airliner in the Hudson River, and the resulting investigation of the pilot Chesley Sullenberger. Arrives in theaters on September 9.

    Viral

A virus spreads to a bubonic-plague-like level, wiping out major populations and turning humans into pseudo-zombies. No, I’m not talking about 2002’s 28 Days Later. Not talking about 2009’s Carriers either. Nor the brand new The Girl With All The Gifts, coming out this fall. Not talking about 2008’s Quarantine either. This film is called Viral, and the trailer promises exactly what you’d expect. Releases on July 29th.

    Joshy

Being described as a Hangover for hipsters, Joshy follows a group of guys on what was supposed to be a bachelor party weekend, which turn a turn for the dramatic when the engagement was called off. If you’re a fan of comedy, then the cast of Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman and Jenny Slate will excite you. Arrives in theaters on August 12.

    Why Him?

Bryan Cranston and James Franco want to warm your heart this holiday season with a feel good family film. Cranston’s daughter wants to marry Franco. Franco is a crazy person who must win over the hearts of his future inlaws. Comedy ensues in theaters this December.

    Trolls

The Pixar wannabes at Dreamworks have grabbed the coveted license for the nightmare-inducing Troll Dolls, and are launching an assault on your sense in theaters on November 4th. The voice cast is solid, so we’ll have to wait and see if they can turn Troll Dolls into Troll Dollars. (Get it?)

    Bleed for This

Everyone loves an underdog, especially in the world of boxing movies, and there’s probably no greater underdog story than Vinny Paz, who recovered from a broken neck in a car crash to reclaim his middleweight title. Watch Miles Teller bring his story to life in theaters on November 4th.
