Eight organizations and 15 artists will be installing new public art murals over the course of the next year, thanks to a new grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC). The recipients of the grant were announced on Friday, with a total investment tallying up $123,000 for public art.
The winning organizational applicants include the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Hilltop Arts Collective, Short North Alliance, Franklinton High School, University District Organization, Shadowbox Live, 934 Gallery, and We Amplify Voices.
Individual artists that will receive funding for their mural installations include Andre Alexander, Dillon Beck, Katelyn Bishop, Isabel Bongue, Adam Brouillette, Arris Cohen, Jessica Driscoll, Paul Giovis, Adam Hernandez, Joseph Hernandez, Daniel Rona, Jamie Sommer, Anna VanWalsen, Mitch Vicieux and Luka Weinberger.
“There were so many qualified candidates it was not an easy task,” stated juror Dave Young Kim. “It was a joy seeing the potential of the public work that would be applied to the streets of Columbus. I truly believe this program will be vital to the enrichment of not only the arts in Columbus but the city itself as a mechanism to support, activate and elevate the further beautification of the city and young artists coming of age.”
