When we last heard from Carolyn Maloney at 39 Below FroYo, she had announced plans to close her Gay Street store and relocate to Olde Towne East. After a winter hibernation mode, the new shop at 85 Parsons Avenue is nearly ready for its debut.
“What we like so much is the new location is the neighborhood itself,” explained Maloney, who said that she first fell in love with OTE years ago when living above Carabar. “The area is alive and growing with a tremendous sense of community.”
The new 39 Below will hold off on serving hot food items for the time being, refocusing its menu solely on frozen yogurt. Maloney said that customers from Gay Street will recognize a lot of similar flavors, new flavors and localized topping options.
At one third the size of the original (400 square feet compared to 1,150 square feet), the shop will only seat a few people inside, but will be able to accommodate more guests outside on a patio during the warmer months. The inside will also continue to be home to art gallery walls that will exclusively hang work from illustrator students at the Columbus College of Art and Design.
39 Below FroYo will officially open on March 25th, with a grand opening art exhibition planned for April 9th.
The retail space at 85 Parsons Avenue was most recently home to the Near East Side Coop, which has recently closed.
