“For 10 years this community has supported us and allowed us to fulfill the dream of owning and operating a second restaurant,” a social media post announcing the closure read. “Now that our lease is up we have decided not to renew and close the Gahanna Arepazo location. We will forever be thankful for your support.”

Owners Carlos and Carolina Gutierrez opened the first brick-and-mortar location of Arepazo in Pearl Alley Downtown in 2005. The Venezuelan eatery proved to be a popular lunchtime spot, and spurred the search for a second location.

“Our story in Gahanna began when we wanted to open a 2nd restaurant where we could serve dinner and have a full bar,” the post continued. “When we walked into the 1700 square foot space in downtown Gahanna we saw ourselves there. The feeling was perfect and we knew this could be the start of something great.”

Arepazo would grow to three locations, with another full-service restaurant opening in the Brewery District in 2014. The restaurant operated as a three-unit brand until the flagship Downtown location closed its doors in 2018. It was quickly replaced by Argentinian eatery Barroluco. The Gahanna restaurant will be replaced by newcomer Marlow’s Cheesesteaks.

Arepazo’s Brewery District location, 515 S. High St., will remain open.

“Carlos and I are looking forward to be working more hand in hand at our Brewery District Arepazo,” the post read. “We look forward to seeing you there.”

The Gahanna restaurant will offer lunch service from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and dinner service from 5 – 9 p.m. for its remaining days.
