Bakery Gingham Opens in New Location on Saturday

German Village is getting even sweeter. Amanda Ellis is moving her sweet shop Bakery Gingham to a bigger space on Thurman Avenue. The new space has allowed her to expand her selection of goodies too! Bakery Gingham became well-known as the delicious and beautiful cupcake spot next to the Brown Bag Deli. She offered six different cupcake flavors a day, all homemade. Now she is able to offer cupcakes as well as quick breads, bars, biscotti, coffee cakes, cookies, croissants, muffins, scones and pocket pies. The grand opening for the new space will be this Saturday, January 31st. We stopped last weekend for a sneak peak…

One of the best features of the new location is how big it is. Ellis is able to have a huge commercial kitchen with plenty of space for different workstations – mixing, baking, cooling, decorating and storing. The space was a blank slate and allowed her to place appliances exactly where she wanted for the best workflow. Check out the darling cookies and cupcakes cooling next to the stove!

There is also plenty of space to have a “consultation station.” Ellis is excited to have a beautiful area in her shop to consult with the many brides she does wedding cakes for. It is big enough to also switch around the configuration of tables and chairs to offer classes. Ellis hopes to offer quite a range of event possibilities, from decorating lessons to kids’ cupcake parties and other special events.

The new space has lots of fun art adorning the walls. The favorite so far is this dog looking at the pretty cupcake on the table. Is he going to eat it? The art adds to the fun and fresh feel of the front of the store. The walls and ceiling are painted in a bright pink and minty green; a beautiful chandelier hangs from the ceiling. Ellis salvaged a gorgeous and classy mantel to use as her checkout counter. It is easily the focal point of the front of the store.

Some of the flavors of cupcakes you can find are: Buckeye Nation, Caramel Apple, Choosy Moms, Cinnamon Toast, Cookie Monster, Dreamsicle, Funky Monkey, Grandpa’s Coffee, GV Chocolate Haute Chocolate, Keylime Pie, Lemony Snickets, Malted, Mutant Turtle, Neopolitan, Oreo Sandwiched, Peppermint Patty, Pumpkin Pie, Red Red Velvet, S’more of it, Snowball, Strawberry Shortcake, Twice Chai, Ultra-Violet White, 10 Carrot. Some are daily flavors, others are everyday. You can check out the menu on the equally cute Bakery Gingham Website!

189 Thurman Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43206. You can reach them by phone at 614.449.CAKE.
