After 16 months in operation, BonChon in Clintonville has announced its immediate closure today. The North High Street restaurant was the second franchise location to open in Columbus following the first spot, which also opened and closed in a relatively short amount of time.
When news first broke about the Korean chain’s entry into the Central Ohio market, locals were abuzz with excitement, but the reality seemed to not live up to the hype.
“Bonchon’s chicken is not going to change your life,” stated CU Food Critic Miriam Bowers Abbott in her 2015 review. “It’s good, to be sure. But transcendent? That’s too much to expect from a dead bird.”
No specific reason for the Clintonville location closure was given when the following image was posted on the store’s Facebook page this evening:
According to the BonChon website, the only currently open store in Ohio is in the Cleveland suburb of Seven Hills.
