“This is going to be the biggest chicken wing operation you’ve ever seen,” joked Columbus College of Art and Design president Denny Griffith as he greeted reporters for a look at the school’s ongoing renovation of the Byers building at E. Broad and Cleveland. But seriously, the ensuing hard hat tour covered current usage plans for the space, ways in which the building’s original design will be incorporated into its new use and the status of the $12 million capital campaign to pay for the whole thing.
Solidified for the space is a plan to relocate the school’s fashion design and industrial design departments, to provide more room for the huge increase in enrollment for the first and to place the second right next to a fabrication shop, to steer students’ product ideas from the drawing board to reality.
