“Chroma is an opportunity to see some of the best and brightest emerging talent in Columbus!” said Renee LeGendre, Director of Communications for CCAD. “If you are an art and design lover, this is a fantastic opportunity to see some fresh, cutting-edge work.”

Chroma takes place from 4pm-8pm and is a campus-wide celebration at the Columbus College of Art & Design, located in Downtown Columbus at 60 Cleveland Ave. It is a free event and is open to the public.

There are timed events throughout the evening, and the thirteen academic programs will also host an exhibition of the best outstanding student work this year in their department.

Of note will be the launch of Smokey’s Scouts, a forest-friendly mobile matching game for kids and adults.

Eighteen students from CCAD’s Illustration, Animation, Game Art & Design, and Comics & Narrative Practice programs collaborated to conceptualize, design, and launch the game. They all worked with the USDA Forest Service to bring Smokey Bear to life in this fun mobile game.

“Our students really embraced the unique design challenge of creating a new cast of characters alongside an icon like Smokey Bear, all while effectively educating players on wildfire prevention in a dynamic environment,” said Elizabeth Keegan, chair of Game Art & Design, CCAD. “Creative collaboration projects like this allows us to send graduates into the world with proven potential and professional experience developing and publishing applications addressing real-world challenges.”

To play the game, you aid Smokey Bear and his group of helpful animal scouts in preventing wildfires by removing (matching three) fire hazards along their hike. It’s free to play and is available for download via Apple App Store and Google Play.

    Other Chroma highlights include:

4pm-5pm, enjoy the History of Art & Visual Culture symposium where four students will present new research in areas of art and design history

5pm-6pm, Red Wheelbarrow reading & Botticelli launch where you can hear poetry and prose by CCAD students, including the winners of this year’s Creative Writing Awards, and purchase the latest issues of Botticelli

6pm-7pm, Animation Screening where the Animation Department will screen a 45-minute program showcasing the best animated content from the Animation program

7pm-8pm, A selection from the Film & Video Department that will showcase selected student works in the form of film posters and selected films.

Take a look at this year’s outstanding seniors, and congratulations to the 2023 Class Valedictorian, Collin Williams, Advertising and Graphic Design.
