Dude-A-Thon’s behind you. An Ohio winter is in front. What now?

Studio 35 may still have your answer as they roll out the ninth iteration of Saturday Cinema Classics. Every Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for the rest of January and February you will find a cinematic gem on their big screen.

The whole thing started ten years ago when Tim Baldwin just really wanted to see Lawrence of Arabia. He harassed Studio 35 Co-Owner Eric Brembeck long and hard, and eventually, an entire program of stuff Baldwin wanted to see was born.

“It just started with me wanting to see things,” Baldwin remembers. And ten years later, Baldwin and the whole crew at Studio 35 are still saying, “Let’s bring some classics back to the screen.”

According to Baldwin, while year one boasted a lineup of his own favorites, over the ensuing winters, programming has become more of a collaboration. He says Brembeck always likes to start the year off with a family-friendly film, and this year they landed on the 1995 charmer, Babe.

“I was getting clips off of YouTube to use for my little goofy trailer and I just sat there and almost cried,” Baldwin says. “I love it when the crowd loses their mind right before he says, ‘That’ll do pig.’ That is so heartwarming. It just kills you.”

Baldwin credits 35 Co-Owner Rita Volpi for their Valentine’s weekend pick, the 1938 Howard Hawks rom-com Bringing Up Baby, starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. The balance of the series includes some classic horror and an Oscar winner.

“Come out, have a drink, get in the warm theater with an old movie,” invites Baldwin. “That’s really always been the appeal.”
