6% fall in tax receipts could force more service cuts

Less than two months after approving a 2009 budget that slashed city services, Columbus officials worry they might need to cut some more. City Auditor Hugh J. Dorrian reported yesterday that income-tax collections fell 6 percent during the first three months of the year, an unprecedented drop in revenue that could leave city government about $24 million short come December.
