Columbus City Council members are expected to announce financial support today for several cultural groups, including the struggling Columbus Symphony.
The money, which would come mostly from higher-than-expected hotel-room tax revenue, is likely to be matched by Franklin County commissioners and corporate donors.
The money would go to the Columbus Cultural Leadership Consortium, a coalition of 16 cultural organizations. The group sought $1 million annually from both the city and the county as part of the Thrive in Five initiative designed to provide $4 million a year for arts groups in the next three to five years. The Columbus Symphony, which projects a life-threatening $1.5 million deficit this season, could receive as much as $1.2 million from the initiative this year.
