Columbus City Council has a total of seven seats, and five of them are up for grabs during this fall’s election, marking one of the largest council races in recent decades. The the voting process is nonpartisan — you’ll pick four of eight candidates to fill four of the seats with a fifth seating being a head-to-head race — but the field of candidates to select from are largely split down traditional party lines.
The only candidate to previously win a City Council election is incumbent Zach Klein, who is jointed on the ballot by Jaiza Page and Shannon Hardin, both of whom were appointed to Council over the course of the past year. The remainder of the Democratic-endorsed slate includes Elizabeth Brown and Michael Stinziano, who are both running without previous appointment positions.
The Republican-endorsed challengers include Dimitrious Stanley, Besa Sharrah, Ibrahima Sow, John Rush and Ashley Wnek. Two candidates are running as Independent write-ins, and will not officially appear on the ballot: Joe Motil and Keith Hatton.
