Columbus civic and business leaders have been aggressively pursuing the convention, but wasn’t able to accommodate the specific needs of the large-scale national event.

“We are proud of the great work we’ve done over the past several months in our pursuit of the Republican National Convention,” said Mayor Michael Coleman. “I thank the RNC for its consideration and congratulate the cities that were selected to move on to the next phase of this process.”

Local leaders are still continuing to pursue the Democratic National Convention for 2016.

“Through this process, we learned just how ready Columbus is to host major national and international events,” said Brian Ross, President and CEO of Experience Columbus. “We will continue to look for and pursue other opportunities to put our city on the national and international stage.”
