April Fools: Columbus Underground Launching New Local Weather Site

After successfully launching entrepreneur news spin-off The Metropreneur in 2010 and the Urban Living residential listing service in 2012, Columbus Underground is pleased to announce continued business growth in 2013 with the addition of new weather information service planned to go live this Spring.

“If there’s one thing people love to talk about in Columbus more than football, it’s weather,” says Columbus Underground co-founder Walker Evans. “We aim to give the masses what they want, which is why we’re pleased to announce a core strategic business shift into the lucrative meteorology market.”

Following in the mold of other CU-related websites, the new weather utility will be a hyper-local service, providing up-to-the-minute temperature information based on individual neighborhoods, districts and suburban communities.

“If you’re planning on spending the day at the Cup O Joe in Clintonville instead of the Cup O Joe in German Village, you’ll love the ability to turn to us to find out if the temperatures are one degree different, or the same in both areas,” says Evans. “Our users will also love being able to find out the difference between a mild rain sprinkling in Italian Village versus the light rain drizzling in Victorian Village which can help you decide which side of High Street to walk on during Gallery Hop.”

The new weather information service will launch with over two dozen neighborhoods individually categorized with many others to be included at a later date. In the meantime, residents of less important communities including Beechwold, Fifth by Northwest and Franklin Park can find their neighborhood information listed under Clintonville, Grandview Heights and Olde Towne East respectively. Weather information for the Peach District will always show as 85 degrees and Sunny.

The service has yet to be named, and an online contest next week will help select the final name from three semi-finalists that include:

    • ColumbusWeatherUnderground.com
    • CbusTempz.Biz
    • DoneWaitingForSpring.com

Columbus Underground will also be posting a job listing later today for a full time meteorologist position. Qualified applicants should have a minimum of five years of weather-related experience and a degree in Climate Technology from an accredited community college. Further, a qualified meteorologist should possess the jolly demeanor of a Jim Gahnayl mixed with the non-nonsense disposition of a Bob Nunnally.

Stay tuned for more information, at 11.
