Cowtown Gets Down with Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz | Franklin ConcertsI’m going to go out on a limb and proclaim that on Thursday, September 30, 2010 productivity for the entire City of Columbus witnessed a devastating drop. Quite possibly a complete halt.

This wrinkle in workforce was the result of pop-mastermind Jason Mraz and his silky smooth vocal chords who waltzed onto the LC Pavilion stage the night before. He said only three words to make Columbus erupt in elation and start the party: “Cowtown, GET DOWN!”

And Cowtown did – with a mild dose of suburbanite-calamity ensuing.

Delivered live, Mraz’s range and tone were flawless, which is an impressive feat for how intricate his melodies are. His stage banter, which teeters between sincerity and Vegas-cheese, was entertaining to say the least. But it was Jason’s 8-piece accompanying band that blew the lid off the city.

Jason Mraz ticket line | Franklin ConcertsPerennial fan favorites like “I’m Yours,” “The Dynamo of Volition,” and “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry)” certainly made the price of tickets meaningful to a majority of the audience.

The real indulgence for fans was Jason tour-testing his soon-to-be radio gold new song, “What I Am Today,” which is a clever, introspective solo ballad that recaps Mraz’s gratitude toward life with a delicate honesty. Consider this your warning; that masterfully crafted and playful gem will be coming down the Billboard Chart pike very soon. And I’m predicting you’ll love it.

Serving as a hefty testament that Jason Mraz is an immense pop icon here in Columbus was the line that formed to get into the show – stretching from the LC Pavilion front gate and wrapping all the way around to the corner of Vine Street.

And if he truly means what he sings about his fans, “I learned that it’s okay for some to go and some to stay. They shaped my life; they made me love who I am today,” then it seems that the lines to get into his upcoming shows are going to grow exponentially for years to come.
