Columbus Crew’s end-of-the-summer hiccups continued Saturday in Crew Stadium with a painful 4-2 defeat to Trillium cup rivals, Toronto FC.
After the Crew’s previous 6-2 defeat and last week off, many fans may have expected a reinvigorated team to take the field and unleash a little frustration on their Northern neighbours. Unfortunately, it took just over 20 minutes to deflate those hopes and begin a long and disappointing night for the black and gold.
The Crew spent the majority of the game trailing Toronto as poor play in all areas of the pitch condemned Columbus to another heavy defeat that leaves both their grip on the Eastern conference and supporter confidence slightly precarious.
