It was a roller-coaster evening at Lower.com Field as the Crew almost defeated themselves with more defensive blunders yet managed to steady the ship and rally to beat Charlotte FC by 4-2 on Saturday evening.
Columbus got off to the the perfect start when Christian Ramirez put the home team 1-0 within the first 5 minutes.
Max Arfsten doubled the Crew lead shortly after with a well taken goal before Cucho looked to put the game out of Charlotte’s reach with a brilliantly taken volley just before the end of the half.
The period between the 56th and 58th minute will be one to forget as massive slip-ups in the Crew defense gifted Charlotte a way back into the game and once again highlighted the biggest issue currently facing the coaching staff as simple errors allowed Siderski and ex-Crew favourite Justin Meram to pounce on what should’ve been routine clearances.
Thankfully, for Crew fans, Ramirez restored breathing room within a minute with a well taken goal on the Crew break.
Two wins in a week is exactly what Columbus needed after a string of poor results, however, questions still remain at the back as the team now travel to Chicago and New York City before returning home to face Nashville on June 24th.
