Crimson, A Boutique Studio Opens Downtown

Just two short years ago, Crimson Design Group relocated into a new Downtown office space next door to El Arepazo in Pearl Alley. They’ve managed to grow their business and have moved their offices upstairs to make more room for a retail experience on the ground floor of their space. The newly branded “CRIMSON” features a variety of furniture, lighting and accessories, which will rotate regularly.

We recently spoke to owner Cheryl Beachy Stauffer for a Q&A about their new retail venture.

Q: So, what all has happened with your business in the past two years?

A: Well, we have definitely grown since we last spoke and we are fortunate enough to have pulled through the economic dip. In the past two years we have found ourselves designing spaces for bachelors in downtown lofts to families in the burbs. Our niche in commercial design is in the hospitality industry. However, we have done dental and law offices as well as many other environments. Of course, we do not limit ourselves to just those spaces… we love creating spaces for anyone who dares to be inspired.

Q: What prompted the move into upstairs office space?

A: Our business is growing and we had to expand our space. As we looked for spaces to grow into, it seemed only natural to stay in the Downtown area. We did not want to uproot ourselves and have enjoyed developing relationships with other local businesses here. We wanted to continue cultivating those friendships and most of all, we love the urban feel and energy that is really picking up on Gay Street.

Q: So tell us a bit about the new boutique space. What sort of products are there for people to browse?

A: We recently opened CRIMSON – purveyors of fine home furnishings – which is located where our offices used to be at 51 North Pearl Street. This boutique offers a peek into what Crimson Design has to offer. We have access to vast amounts of product including indoor and outdoor furniture, draperies, amazing lighting and accessories. It is impossible to show all that is available so we will be changing product to show the latest trends in color and design. Our space has a wide variety of goods to browse through, ranging from large pieces of furniture to small gift items like candles, cocktail napkins and handmade dishware. We recently took a trip to Turkey and brought back beautiful antique kilim pillows. I am so excited to offer different pieces created by local artisans as well as global artisans. We are also really excited about the launch of our own furniture line that is designed by my husband, Luis and I. Everything will be made locally, supporting craftsmen here in Ohio.

Also, this week we have added fresh flowers! Brian Coovert of Brian Coovert Floral Design has joined us on that effort. He is one of the most talented floral designers I have met. Stop by our boutique in May as he will be creating hand-held bouquets that can be picked up on the go. You can also order flowers for any occasion.

Q: Are there any new design or consulting services that you’re offering?

A: Yes! We are introducing our service, Red Chandelier, which is one day in your space with your stuff and our style. This is a very affordable design package starting at $497 for a room. We do a complete makeover of a room using your own things, including selecting paint colors. While you are out, we work our magic and voila, you come home to a new space!

We also have a wallpaper bar. Long gone are the days of country ducks and grapevine borders (Thank God). There are so many amazing and fun wall coverings and we want to show them off. So bring in your measurements and we will quote out a wall or entire room.

We are all busy these days, but take a little time in your day to stop and smell the flowers and be inspired by the things that surround you!
