This Saturday, the Columbus Metropolitan Library will open its new Whitehall branch, but as soon as that celebration is over, the renovation work will continue elsewhere. Representatives at CML announced today that they will be hosting a community meeting at the Northside Branch (1423 North High Street) next Tuesday, April 14th to showcase the new design for the rebuilding of that location.
The community is invited to take part in the initial design meeting from 5:30pm to 7pm that day where customers can weigh in on the new plans, presented by CML CEO Patrick Losinski and architect A.J. Montero from NBBJ. The proposal calls for the demolition of the 7,828 square foot building, and the construction of a replacement that is three times larger with 23,000 square feet of space. Plans originally called for a multi-story mixed use building, but those ideas were scaled back last October. Construction at Northside is slated to begin this year, with an opening date targeted for 2016.
The new Northside branch is the sixth project from CML, which is working to renovate or replace 10 branches in just a few years. The new Driving Park branch opened in 2014 and work is currently underway on the Main Library Downtown. The Parsons Avenue and Northern Lights branches are also expected to break ground this year.
