Since Jan. 1, 2000, the mayor’s first day in City Hall, Mike Brown has been his communication director. And as a mouthpiece, a last line of defense, Brown was good. He’s knowledgeable about Columbus and savvy enough to offer just enough opinion — accompanied by a few hearty laughs — to keep his sound bites honest.
Brown, like Coleman, has a vision of what Columbus should be, and he wants to see it through. That’s the main reason the 33-year-old was promoted this week to urban ventures coordinator, a unique position created to handle Downtown improvements that have remained a focus of Coleman’s third term.
“Columbus has to keep moving forward,” Brown said. “We cannot just be satisfied. When you quit getting better, you start getting worse.”
