    The old, vacant Columbus police headquarters Downtown may sport a new glass canopy when it reopens in two years.

    That addition is one of several features of a proposed campus setting of city buildings that would include a two-way, tree-lined extension of Gay Street between Front Street and Marconi Boulevard, a new park and possibly a new office building.

    Columbus plans to spend $24 million to renovate the old police headquarters, reconstruct Gay Street and rebuild an underground tunnel linking the old police station to City Hall. The money is budgeted in the city’s capital plan, and bonds would be sold next year.
