Regardless of our views on various issues, we all know our nation and our world is in great distress. Whether it is political, economic, social, or natural resources, we see around us violence, hate, division, discord, and distrust of one another. Isabel Wilkerson’s 2020 study of social structuring ( a title she prefers to racism or racial bias) has been hailed as one of the most important books of the 21st century and has held a prominent place on the “Best Seller” list since it first appeared. Dr. Wilkerson is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist (New York Times), professor (Princeton, Emory, Boston U.), and author (The Warmth of Other Suns) In this masterful book, she examines the unspoken caste system that has shaped America, India, and for a time, Germany, and is felt throughout the world; she shows how our lives today are still defined by this hierarchy of human division, and how this long-standing and made-up construction lies at the root of all our national—and world—problems.
Together we will read and discuss the book and how our own lives are affected by caste—and how together we may begin to make the changes so necessary to heal ourselves and our world. Each session will end with Compline. Plan to join us for each — or any session, as we seek to know one another better, and understand better the world in which we live.
