If you are in the market for art, the Student Art Sale at CCAD is a great way to get some wonderful pieces. Local artist Nikos Fyodor Rutkowski is participating in the sale this year. He enjoys it because it allows you to see “what the current crop of students are creating, and what alumni are up to.” Participating in the sale at CCAD also allows artists to get some direct sales without having to do the whole sale circuit of art fairs and festivals. Current students, alumni and faculty all participate in the sale; Nikos has been doing the sale for years. The sale is this Saturday April 18th, first choice admission begins at 9am and general admission begins at 10:30am.
Going early and paying the $50 first choice admission fee is a good choice if you want to make sure you get exactly what you are looking for. Although Nikos confesses that as the day goes on, he “usually becomes more willing to make deals.” So you could possibly score some great deals if you are willing to wait and have excellent negotiation skills. As for price-points, pieces are priced all over the place. Some artists selling prints, paper, cards, toys and easily produced products usually price on the lower end, so you can find items for as little as $5.
Buying art from this sale keeps money in our local economy! There are many different kinds of art available – blown glass, ceramics, paintings, handmade paper, drawings, apparel, photography, sculptures, prints and jewelry. You are sure to find something that will look great in your home. I own a piece of Nikos’ art and love having it brighten up my home.
