Uncle Nick’s Greek Fried Chicken has flown the coop. The fried chicken joint has moved up the street and is now serving eats under a new name, The Crispy Coop.
Drew Clearly opened Uncle Nick’s in 2015, operating the franchise out of Youngstown for five years at 1333 Northwest Blvd. Cleary says the name and the move came out of a desire to step out on his own.
The restaurant was starting to outgrow its tight space at 1333. Customers were also asking questions like, ‘Where’s the hot chicken?’ and ‘Can we dine in?’
Clearly found the perfect fit for his new coop. The vacated former home of Acre at 1717 Northwest Blvd. in Fifth by Northwest provided more space, more dine in seating, and was just blocks away from the original location, meaning an already loyal group of neighborhood customers.
The fried chicken and Texas Potatoes are carryovers from the Uncle Nick’s menu, but everything else is new fare. The Crispy Coop offers a streamlined menu with two salad options (that of course can be topped with chicken), chicken dinners and individual pieces in traditional, Tennessee Mild and Nashville Hot flavors, and a lineup of sides including greens, mac & cheese, coleslaw and corn bread. It’s all home-made in house.
The new space comes with a liquor license, too. The Crispy Coop will offer four beers on draft and gauge demand for a simple, seasonal cocktail menu.
The Crispy Coop officially opens for business on Saturday, February 1. It will be open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily.
