Five Stops for Gallery Hop – June 2011

Gallery Hop is upon us once again, and as always, there’s plenty of things to see and places to visit. We’ve decided to distill the Gallery Hop experience down and provide a quick pick for five visits to add to your list if you’re planning on hitting the Short North this evening. And the picks include:

    1. Art – Roy G Biv Monthly Exhibition

This month’s opening reception at ROY features two artists with ties to Ohio University: Heidi Bender (earned an MFA in Sculpture and Expanded Media) and Cait Nolan (currently a third year MFA student in the printmaking department). This show includes some interactive elements, so participation is encouraged. Don’t forget to RSVP via Facebook.

    2. Shopping – Ann Robinett Aromatherapy Candles

Ann Robinett took over where her brother Paul left off last year, but their Short North era is coming to a close today. Ann will be clearing out the store at 9 Buttles Avenue. If you want some candles, be sure to stop by early. They’ll be participating in the Short North Yard Sale which starts at 9am, but they’ll also be keeping their doors open late until every candle is gone.

    3. Food – Betty’s Fine Food & Spirits

Betty’s just rolled out a new Spring Drink Menu that includes new and old favorites. A Tang Martini or a Berry Betty (Blueberry-strawberry-infused Finlandia vodka & pink lemonade) make for great summer refreshments and would nicely wash down some meatloaf or blackened catfish for dinner.

    4. Entertainment – Sole Classics

This Short North sneaker shop has been celebrating five years this week, which culminates this weekend with a special edition of Get Right at Skully’s and a huge outdoor party on Sunday at the corner of Hubbard and High that features Fly Union, P. Blackk, LxE for the Uncool, Shin Tower Music and more. Technically not a part of Gallery Hop per se, but still worthy of note. And you can always swing by the shop tonight for something new to wear out to celebrate.

    5. Afterparty – Quality at Basil

This monthly dance party continues its Gallery Hop tradition by clearing the tables out of the way at Basil Thai and turning the music up to 11. Local DJs Jason Lemon Lyman and Jeff Pons return with a special blend of deep funky house music.

What else are you looking forward to at Gallery Hop tonight?
