Local schools, libraries and municipalities are getting a cash refund from the Franklin County Auditor, according to a release issued this morning announcing the rebate. The funds were originally collected to pay for real estate reappraisals and updates but were not fully utilized.
“Due to the ongoing commitment to being fiscally responsible, the Auditor’s office is able to return this money to benefit our community,” stated Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano. “Our goal is to redistribute these dollars back to the taxpayers as closely as possible and I am happy to be able to support our schools, municipalities and ultimately our residents.”
School districts in the county will receive $3.2 million of the $5 million total, with Columbus City Schools getting the largest allocation at $1.07 million.
The remainder is being divided up between municipalities and libraries:
- $964,298 to Franklin County Agencies
- $397,802 to Franklin County Cities and Villages
- $250,755 to Franklin County Townships
- $130,314 to Franklin County Libraries and Parks
