GCAC Presents: Mind Playing Tricks on Me

I remember when The Geto Boys 1991 hit Mind Playing Tricks on Me came out. Yeah, I’m old. And yeah, I’m so old it was back when MTV showed videos all the time. And this one was in heavy rotation. And for good reason, it was a great song and the video was captivating. Don’t take my word for it.

In MadLab’s newest presentation, Memory Fragments, a futuristic murder mystery, minds are definitely having tricks played on them. Attempting to solve a murder that is more complicated than it first appears, as is always the case in any mystery, Detective Cloud continues to discover minds being messed with including his own.

To solve the case, Cloud begins sifting through the “memory fragments” that were obtained from the victim’s stack. The memory fragments are one’s recorded memories. The stack is like a server where one’s recorded memories are kept. He also gets into memory simulations or “mem-sims.” These are memories that one interacts with in a virtual environment. When almost everything you do takes place in your mind, it’s a lot easier for tricks to be played.

What if you could watch some of your own memory fragments? Which would you choose? What if you could view others like Detective Cloud does in Memory Fragments? A couple members of the Memory Fragments cast give their choices:

Laura Spires doing double duty in the show as Female Psychiatrist and Nan Ghent:

“I would watch the memory of my parents wedding -Cheesy? Yes.
I would frequently watch my memories of vacations in an attempt to be on vacation all the time.”

Colleen Dunne plays Charlotte, she really thought this through:

“If I could watch my old memories, from a 3rd person perspective, I would want to see the elaborate death scenes I used to stage when I felt I wasn’t getting enough attention at home. My most popular involved yelling, “Everything’s going black!” and lots of gagging and staggering around.

If I could watch someone else’s memories, I would want to see my parents as kids. I would love to see what they were like when they were little.

And before things get too touching, Colleen adds:

“Oh, and of course I would happily watch any and all memories featuring David Duchovny.”
