    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Foreclosures ravaged Ohio housing prices in the third quarter, including in Columbus. But unlike in all other major markets in the state, the decline here was less than the Midwest average.

The median sale price of a home in Columbus in the July-to-September quarter declined 5 percent, to $144,000, from the same quarter of 2007, the association said. The average decline in the Midwest was 5.5 percent. Nationally, the decline was 9 percent, putting the average price at $200,500.

Columbus had the smallest drop among Ohio’s large cities or regions, yet its median sale price was 10 percent lower than the Midwest median of nearly $160,000. However, some observers say prices won’t go much lower here.
