The North Market announced this morning that Hoyo’s Kitchen — a Somali restaurant located in the Columbus Square Shopping Center on the city’s northeast side — will be opening a fast-casual concept of the same name within the Downtown public market.
“The addition of Hoyo’s Kitchen to the historic North Market is much bigger than simply a story about food,” stated North Market Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe. “The Somali community is a vital part of the fabric of Columbus and now the Somali cultural experience is moving from the edges of our community to find a home in the heart of our city.”
Hoyo’s Kitchen was first opened in 2014 by Abdilahi “A.B.” Hassan and his family with a goal of introducing Columbus residents to Somali cuisine. The new North Market stall will further that mission by blending traditional recipes with a contemporary fast-casual service format.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the North Market family,” said Hassan. “It’s truly humbling to be given the opportunity to showcase Somali cuisine. It’s our belief that Hoyo’s Kitchen can and will play an integral part in bringing a whole new dynamic to a fast growing and diverse food scene.”
