Halfway through the summer, the city’s curfew-enforcement program has snagged 21 violators. The peak night at the Downtown YMCA holding center was the first night, June 5, when police took in three teens found on the streets after midnight.
That means that for every night the center has been open — Thursdays through Saturdays each week — the four workers have outnumbered the violators.
City officials point to the numbers as evidence of the program’s success and say the publicity blitz that began in March when Mayor Michael B. Coleman announced the crackdown has educated the public.
