I can’t say that I’ve ever thought of having a sweet deviled egg. However, eggs make up plenty of the desserts I enjoy, so why shouldn’t a deviled egg get its turn in the sweet spotlight?
For this year’s Ohio State Fair, the Ohio Poultry Association developed a recipe for Lemon Meringue Deviled Eggs that are available to try at the Taste of Ohio Cafe.
A little bit sweet and a little bit chewy, the Lemon Meringue Deviled Egg was a delicious little bite that let’s you try something new at the fair that isn’t deep-fried.
Because they are removed from the cooler once you place the order, the deviled eggs do have a firmer consistency than I would prefer, but overall, it’s a fun bite to eat. The filling has a light lemon flavor and the meringue topping provides a bite of chewy sweetness.
According to the team running the cafe stall, the special deviled egg has been quite popular.
The Lemon Meringue Deviled Egg sells at the fair as two for $4 in the Taste of Ohio Cafe. On August 4, two Lemon Meringue Deviled Eggs are on special for $3.
