Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group has named Hero For Christ: Thirty Ways You Can Be More Like Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Twenty More World-Changing Christians a finalist for the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the category Best Religious Non-Fiction. The Indie Book Awards were established to recognize and honor the most exceptional independently published books, and are presented by IBPPG in cooperation with Marilyn Allen of Allen O’Shea Literary Agency.
Hero For Christ presents a fresh, current perspective on Christianity, focused around a message of social justice, issues of poverty, the development of personal talents, and the care and protection of the environment, all as drawn directly from the words of Jesus. The book also combines devotional readings with biographical sketches of notable Christians from all parts of the world. It has drawn praise from figures as diverse as Reverend Jim Ball of the Evangelical Environmental Network, Reverend Luis Cortes of Esperanza USA, who called it “a great resource for devotional and reflective reading,” and Timothy Neal of Existential Christianity, who described it as “a gateway into the lives and minds of amazing people who sought to imitate Jesus.”
Author Christopher Sunami is the Director of Youth Ministries at the Church For All People, where he also heads the “All People Arts” program providing free vocal and instrumental lessons to members of the community.
