After a decade at the North Market, Taste of Belgium has closed its stall.

The Cincinnati-based eatery opened its sole Columbus location in the North Market in May of 2009, serving up it signature waffles, crepes and more.

A post on Taste of Belgium’s Facebook Page announced the sudden closure, effective immediately.

We regret to inform all our waffle-loving fans out there that the North Market location is permanently closed. It has been our pleasure to serve you over the past ten years, Columbus, and we look forward to continuing our adventure in the future. We will be back!

The closure came as a surprise to the business as well.

“The North Market Board decided not to renew our lease,” says Taste of Belgium Owner Jean-Francois Flechet. “They want to focus on incubating new businesses. It’s sad. I love the North Market. That was quite unexpected. We had just celebrated our 10th year anniversary.”

The post, and comments from the business below, indicate the waffle-maker looks to make a comeback in the Columbus market – and in bigger and better fashion.

Taste of Belgium operates four full-service bistros in Cincinnati and a stall at the city’s Findlay Market.

“We are looking at opening a full bistro in the Columbus area in the near future,” Flechet says. “We are looking for the right opportunity.”
