Nearly $1 Million in Grants Awarded to Local Artists in 2023

The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) announced this morning that its board of trustees have approved 590 “Funds for Artists” grants in the first three grant cycles for 2023. The amount of grants given out total a collective $945,326.

“We’re amazed to see that the number of first round grants for 2023 practically exceeds all of last year,” said Alison Barret, VP of grants and community engagement. “While a lot of factors are contributing to these numbers, we know we can attribute a large portion of the success to the GCAC Navigators, who are out in the community spreading the word about our many programs and how they directly benefit artists.”

These individual grants — maxed out at $1,700 per application — are given to assist artists and groups with projects, skill development and marketing. Over 51 percent of the grants given out in 2023 have been to new applicants.

Two additional rounds of funding will be distributed later this year, with application deadlines on June 1 and September 1.
