    New City Council Members Appointed for Service

    Columbus City Council appointed two new members tonight to replace former Councilmembers Mike Mentel and Charleta Tavares. The new Councilmembers are Michelle M. Mills, who is President and CEO of St. Stephen’s Community House, and Zachary M. Klein, Deputy Chief of Legal Services to former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray. The pair were chosen from a stack of over 50 applications for the open seats.

    “From the very onset of the application process, I was impressed with the quality and caliber of all who applied to fill the vacancies on Council,” said newly appointed President Andrew Ginther. “I am certain that Councilmembers Mills and Klein will serve with distinction as we work to create an even better community to live and raise our families.”

    These two appointed Councilmembers will run for public election in November to be elegible to keep their seats beyond the interim. Additionally, council president Ginther, council member Hearcel Craig, and Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman will be running for re-election.
