We’ve been talking about the new Franklin County Courthouse Complex for nearly five years, and the project is finally being unveiled with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today. The new building at 345 South High Street is an annex to the existing courthouse buildings next door and its 325,000 square feet will primarily be home to offices and courtrooms.
The building was constructed to LEED Gold standards, but the certification has not yet been received. Some of the green features include a green rooftop, a design that captures and maximizes natural lighting, and energy efficient HVAC systems.
The new County Courthouse building will also include a convenience store on the ground floor, though it is only accessible from the inside of the building and requires visitors to go through security screening at the entry of the building. There is also a new pocket park on the north side of the building, accessible to the public. Additional greenspace surrounds the building, some of it permanent, and some of it temporary to allow for future development and expansion.
