New Zaftig Taproom and Brewery Opening at End of May

Local beer lovers, rejoice. Zaftig Brewing is moving out of their small garage taproom into a bigger and better space. On Saturday May 21, the microbrewery will be hosting a grand opening of their new brewery and taproom.

Zaftig will be moving from its former home at 545 Schrock Road to just down the street at 7020-A Huntley Road. The new 6,500 square foot space mostly houses a new 15-barrel brewing operation, a significant upgrade from their former three-barrel system. The 1,500 square-foot taproom includes a gaming area, and a stage for live music.

The microbrewery got its start back in 2013 when co-owners Brent Halsey and Jim Gokenbach decided to take their home brewing hobby full-time. This expansion was part of their original business plan: start out small and steadily grow.

“If it’s received well, we’ll make the proper steps to make sure more people can enjoy our high-gravity beers,” said Gokenbach.

    Zaftig will host a soft opening prior to the grand opening, on May 18 – 19 from 4 – 10 p.m., and May 20 from 4 – 10 p.m.

Four special release cans will be available for guests at the grand opening: Bourbon Barrel-Aged Too, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Big Barley Wine, and Black Perle Stout aged in both brandy and port barrels. All beers have aged for a minimum of nine months. Hopped nitro coffee from Crimson Cup and food from Challah!, Kenny’s Meat Wagon, and Short North Piece of Cake will be additionally be available for purchase.

Zaftig Brewing’s taproom will be open Wednesdays through Sundays.
