If you’ve driven down Spring Street through Downtown Columbus recently, you may have noticed some inspiring lettering appearing in the windows of a recently renovated building. The ground floor space at 59 East Spring Street is the new home of Old Machine, a local film production company that makes both commercial and creative work.
The company is in the process of relocating from the Berry Boltworks building on East First Avenue in Italian Village, which no longer meets the needs of the evolving business.
“We have a lot of equipment that gets loaded in and out on a regular basis for shoots and that becomes difficult when you are on the second floor with no freight elevator,” explained Caleb Ely, Client Relations and Account Manager at Old Machine. “We needed a place either on ground level or a place with a freight elevator. We found both in the same space.”
Ely says that their new home Downtown offers the same “simplicity and grit” with hardwood floors, high tin ceilings, brick walls and a massive basement. The company is leasing 6,000 square feet of space on the ground floor, and the basement adds another 6,000 square feet.
“We will also have a rooftop patio come summer time,” adds Ely.
The company will continue construction in the space over the next several weeks with plans to occupy the space in April.
