Opinion: Ohio Student Activist Alliance Responds to HB151 & SB83

The integrity of our state and the future of our economy are dependent on the strength of our higher education system. Ohio’s universities and colleges are the powerhouses that continue to create the engineers, scientists, and educators that keep our state thriving. House Bill 151 and Senate Bill 83 directly threaten the future of our schools and this legislation will ensure that our economy will decay as prospective students will not choose to attend schools within Ohio.

Education is intended to be a collaborative process, bringing together educators and students from a wide variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures. Our universities thrive because they encourage multiculturalism alongside the academic freedom that ensures independent thinking. If the General Assembly passes SB83 and Governor Mike DeWine signs the legislation into law, then the academic rigor of our universities will deteriorate. Our professors will be bound to a narrow method of teaching that will silence the voices of the masses. This legislation is harmful, destructive, and revisionist.
