A pair of bars have called it quits in the Short North. Both DeVine Tastings & Dining, 958 N. High St., and Bar 23, 584 N. High St., have closed their doors.
DeVine made its debut mid-pandemic, opening in the fall of 2020. Taking over the former home of Tastings, DeVine kept the self-serve wine theme and paired it with a diverse menu of fusion eats.
A post on the bar and restaurant’s website said COVID and staffing challenges were among the issues faced over the business’ two-plus year run. The business is currently listed for sale for $145,000.
Details are few on long-running cap-dweller Bar 23’s departure. While Google lists the location as temporarily closed, Yelp reports its permanent closure and the space is listed for lease with immediate availability. A request for comment from Bar 23 on the reason for the closure has not been returned at the time of publishing.
Bar 23 and DeVine join a number of other recent neighborhood closures, including Melt Bar & Grilled, which made its temporary closure permanent earlier this month. Other departures include Two Truths, which abruptly closed after five years at the end of March, due to issues with its landlord as outlined on the bar’s Instagram page, as well as Moody Trudy’s, which parted ways with BrewDog in Short North for the owner to focus on her family.
