Pecha Kucha In Franklinton On Thursday

Something magical happens when you combine local art, food, music, people, and passion. Throw in screen printing, a taco truck, free beer, and a 100,000-square foot urban warehouse, and you’ve got one bona fide celebration. Pecha Kucha Columbus will host its next event this Thursday evening at 400 West Rich Street in Franklinton. The festivities will begin at 7:00 p.m. with live music by The Max Power Trio and presentations will begin at 7:30.

Following the international Pecha Kucha format, each presenter will show 20 images and speak about each image for 20 seconds. Presenters include architect Michael Bongiorno, Olivera Bratich from Wholly Craft, yoga instructor Lara Falberg, artist Vanilla Foehn, illustrator Matt Kish, musician Jim Maneri, landscape architect Jeffrey Pongonis, Chris Sherman from the Franklinton Arts District, designer Joseph Wisne, and food blogger Bethia Woolf. Vox, a vocal ensemble of the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus, will perform during intermission.

Junior’s Tacos and Cambridge Tea House will sell refreshments throughout the event and Pabst Blue Ribbon Columbus will provide free beer. Members of THOUGHTco will screen print t-shirts brought from home for $2 and will sell new ones for $8. Artwork from past Urban Scrawl events will be on display.

The suggested donation is $2 per person. Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or picnic blankets. Free parking is available in the lot just east of the building and along Lucas Street. Click HERE for a map of 400 West Rich Street.

Pecha Kucha was founded in Tokyo in 2003 as a way for designers to meet and share their work in public. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for “the sound of conversation,” it has morphed into a massive multicultural celebration with events in more than 300 cities around the world. Pecha Kucha Columbus formed in 2007 and holds four events a year. For more information, visit pecha-kucha.org.
