Kentucky’s White Reaper stopped by the Newport Music Hall on Friday night as the five-piece garage rockers continued their U.S. tour.
The band are currently back on the road to promote their freshly available fourth studio album, Asking for a Ride, that dropped in January to largely positive reviews, while the album’s lead single “Pages” has already found some quality air time rotation here in town on CD92.9.
Also on the bill, and yet another reason to never miss the opening act, were Taipei Houston, the brother-duo and sons of a rather famous rock drummer who blew away the early attenders with a riff-heavy bass and drum sound from a relatively young band with clear potential.
Texas-based Narrow Head offered support for the evening, but their shoe-gaze stage presence felt disconnecting as they played their way through a set of grunge revivalism that didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
