Metro Parks wants to buy 11 miles of railroad land that would connect Columbus to the southern leg of the Ohio to Erie Trail by 2012. The parks board voted last week to pay $750,000 to the Camp Chase Railroad Co. if engineering studies show that the land will make a good trail.

The Ohio to Erie Trail, proposed in 1991 by the late Ed Honton, is now 75 percent complete. When completed, the 300-mile Ohio to Erie Trail “will be the longest off-road, paved trail in the United States,” Rampelt said.
