We’ve got another flurry of local restaurant activities to report on this week. Lots of upcoming events, both Halloween-themed and Autumn-themed, as well as menu updates, kitchen upgrades and more.
New on the Menu to Warm You Up
Milestone 229, which opened back in July, just completed their first menu change. A few items have been removed that weren’t selling well and others have been added for some seasonal variety, such as their Braised Pork Shank served with Sweet Potato Hash and Braised Collard Greens. J. Gumbo’s has added Cajun Red Chili, a medium-spice dish, to their menu to help ease you into the colder months. This new offering is available at the Polaris, Gahanna and OSU Campus locations.
The Hubbard Grille added new seasonal menu items last week, including a Braised Shortrib Sandwich, Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna, Grilled Ribeye and Rock Shrimp & Italian Sweet Sausage Bruchetta.
Kitchen Upgrades / Under Construction
Bodega is adding a new hood system to their kitchen which will allow them to add some new equipment including a fryer, saute station, oven and grill station. Bodega will be transitioning their menu slowly, starting sometime in the next few weeks. They’re also working on a possible partnership with Clever Crow pizza to begin carrying their pies in-house.
New Stores and New Ownership
Oilerie Columbus opened at 1409 Grandview Avenue on October 1st. This Olive Oil bar/store features over 25 oils and vinegars, all imported from Italy. All products are available for tasting daily, and the new shop is open seven days a week.
The French Loaf bakery, located at 1456 West 5th Avenue in the 5xNW neighborhood, has just changed ownership. The new owners have announced a teaser that new and fresh ideas will be coming soon to compliment the classic offerings that everyone has grown to love.
Upcoming Events
Latitude 41 will be hosting a Great Lakes Brewing Company beer dinner on November 17th. This five-course meal starts at 7:30pm and will be proceeded by a meet and greet at 6:30. Tickets are $63 and will be online soon at www.brownpapertickets.com.
The Granville Inn is hosting their first Haunted Inn Experience, which runs Thursday October 27 through Saturday October 29. Hours are from 6-9 pm, admission is $2 and all proceeds benefit The Licking County Food Pantry. The Granville Inn has also started a new Craft Beer Thursdays event on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month, which includes a 5oz tasting of 4 different beers for $10.
Katzinger’s is taking reservations for a Seasonal Cheese & Beer tasting with Michelle Graef of Cavalier Distributing, which takes place on Wednesday, November 16th at 6:30pm. Katzinger’s Specialty Foods Managers will guide you on a taste of five holiday cheeses, paired with seasonal beers. Call today 614-228-3354 to RSVP.
Chipotle is changing up their annual Halloween costume concept and refocusing it on giving back to local farms. Stop in any Chipotle store on Halloween between 6pm and closing time dressed in a “family farm” inspired costume for a $2 burrito. Up to $1 million in proceeds will be raised an donated to The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation and Farm Aid.
