Columbus has so many new restaurants, expansions, menu updates and other changes, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everything. That’s why our Restaurant Roundup series was designed to keep you informed with the latest and greatest updates. This week, learn about a regional brewery acquired by a national brand, a new food truck from an old favorite, and more.
Platform
The Cleveland-based brewery has been acquired by Anheuser-Busch, the parent company responsible for beers like Budweiser, Rolling Rock and Shock Top. It’s unclear what changes this will bring to Platform’s facilities in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, but per a public post on Twitter, Platform representatives said they “will still be making the same Platform beer, brewed by the same Platform employees, and poured at the same Platform locations.”
“The most important factor in this decision was having confidence that we could continue to control the day-to-day operations in an independent matter,” their Twitter post reads.

J Hot Fish
We’ve seen J Hot Fish all around town at this point, but now the restaurant has gone fully mobile with a food truck operating since late July. The restaurant closed its Linden location in June, but indicated that they’d be reopen at a new spot soon.
In 2015, J Hot Fish first opened as a pick-up window at the Food Hub in Olde Towne East. They outgrew that location in 2017, then landing at their Linden store. Now, J Hot Fish can be found in food truck form at the site of the former Easy Street Cafe at 2882 E. Main St. The truck parks in the rear lot from 1 to 8 p.m. throughout the week.

Not Chicken Takeover
Hot Chicken Takeover is adding plant-based protein “Not Chicken” to their menu. Beginning Monday, Aug. 19, the new item will be available at all three of their central Ohio locations. It will be available for two days only this month, Aug. 19 and Aug. 26, before becoming a permanent fixture on the menu in September.
Not Chicken can be ordered as an entree or a sandwich and comes with a vinegar-based, vegan slaw and pickles. Their baked beans, launched earlier this month, are also vegan.

Hoyo’s Kitchen
Fast-casual Somali restaurant Hoyo’s Kitchen will open its second location at the North Market on Monday, Aug. 12. Owner Abdilahi “A.B.” Hassan first opened the restaurant on the North Side in 2014.
Hoyo’s offers a variety of proteins like goat, lamb, chicken, steak and salmon. Sides include curry cabbage, cooked spinach and potatoes, lentils, chickpeas and salad.
“We’re excited to finally be up and running and look forward to being a part of the North Market family,” said Hassan in a press release. “It’s truly humbling to be given the opportunity to showcase Somali cuisine. It’s our belief that Hoyo’s Kitchen can and will play an integral part in bringing a whole new dynamic to a fast growing and diverse food scene.”
