    Retail Roundup: Gearing Up for Local Holiday Shopping

    Your favorite local stores, boutiques and other retail business are all starting to get ready for the busiest time of year: the Holiday shopping season. Several stores are currently hosting sales to clear out what’s left of their summer merchandise and others are rolling out new locally made products. A couple of stores that we’re reporting on this week have recently expanded as well.

    New Products Are Arriving

    Little Alouette has several new products in their lineup of hand made wooden toys, including a nativity set, turkey leg teether and wooden rings for adults. All items can be found online at their Etsy Store.

    Seagull Bags just released their new 2011 Fall Black Bag. Seagull relocated this summer to 240 North Fifth Street, Suite 160, located Downtown and running have open hours Monday-Friday 10am to 5pm.

    Skreened has been busy in their new space with multiple new projects. Last week, they launched a new referral program that rewards customers with $5 gift cards for every new customer they refer. They also recently launched a new gifts section of their retail site that includes products from Igloo Letterpress, Stinkybomb Soap and Little Alouette. Skreened is also working with local models to show off their products, which you can view photos of HERE, and join in on via Facebook.

    Store Expansions and Growth

    Karavan recently expanded their shop into the former Tigertree space in the Short North. As of October 1st the store is roughly double the size at 771 North High Street and have added new products including new handmade rugs, a new shoe section, and new bags, backpacks and purses.

    Grid Furnishings is celebrating their one year anniversary at the November Gallery Hop and is currently winding down a 20%-off sale on all items from their Blu Dot collection, which runs through November 8th. Additionally, Grid Furnishings is now carrying Chilewich woven floormats and utility mats.

    Special Events, Deals and Promotions

    HOMAGE is hosting a “Pep Rally In the Alley” this Saturday at 11:00 am on the morning of the OSU-Wisconsin game. HOMAGE is located at 17 East Brickel Street and the event includes free beverages, free RAH RAGs and a professional Woody Hayes impersonator. Additionally, representatives from HOMAGE will be at the gates entering Ohio Stadium on Saturday, handing out 50,000 limited edition Script OhioRAH RAGs to OSU fans.

    Rowe Boutique is hosting an event on Thursday, November 3rd in collaboration with Dr. Neal Patel and Dr. Cindy Walt where $10 units of botox and other spa specials will be offered in addition to 20% off all merchandise at Rowe. The event will also feature beauty consultations, cocktails and pastries. You can RSVP to the event at [email protected].

    Crimson Design is hosting a 35% off sale on all accessories and artwork through October 31st at their showroom on Pearl Alley located Downtown. Additionally, all furniture is being discounted 10% off to make room for new arrivals.

    Y Sadiq Diamond is currently running a special promotion at their Downtown location that features a free tungsten wedding band with the purchase of a precious metal mens ring from their Code XY or Omnia collections.

    The Cheesecake Boutique on Lane Avenue will be hosting a “Stuff Your Stockings Party” on Thursday, November 17 from 5:30pm to 9:00pm, which will feature cookies, cocktails and holiday sales shopping.

    National Press on Local Shops

    Lottie Da recently got some national publicity when they were named one of the Top 50 Etsy Baby Shops of 2011 by Babble.com. They’ll be getting more press next month as well, when one of their fall dress designs will be featured on the front cover of the November issue of Babiekins Magazine, a high-end national children’s fashion publication.

    An Update to Fall and Holiday Business Hours

    On Paper is switching to the new fall/holiday hours on Sunday, November 6. They’ll be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sundays from noon to 5pm.
