Everything comes at you fast when you’re driving on I-670 near Downtown. Drivers coming off I-70 and Rt. 315 to eastbound I-670 must contend with vehicles entering or exiting at Neil Avenue or 3rd or 4th streets in quick succession. Then they immediately encounter a web of lanes that take them to either Cleveland Avenue, Port Columbus, Broad Street, I-70 or I-71 on the east side of Downtown.

Along a roughly 5-mile stretch between Rt. 33 and the Champion Avenue overpass, more than 1,800 crashes, seven of them involving fatalities, occurred from 2004 to 2006, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported.

It’s unlikely that the financially strapped state agency, hit by a decrease in gas-tax revenue and federal aid, will do any construction to add lanes or bridges.
