After three years in the Short North, the Sarah Gormley Gallery will be relocating to Downtown Columbus. The gallery made the official announcement last week and plans to make the move in September to The Nicholas Building at 95 North High Street.
“The opportunity to relocate Sarah Gormley Gallery into such an incredible space is a testament to so many wonderful things about Columbus: a diverse community of people who care passionately about art, an abundance of amazing artists and commitment from people like Jeff Edwards who enable and support the cultural and economic growth of this city I’m lucky to call home,” said gallery owner Sarah Gormley.
The new gallery will take over 1,800 square feet of space located directly below the eye-catching second-story pool for apartment residents in the building, and directly next door to Speck Italian Eatery, a new restaurant scheduled to open sometime in July.
The addition of the gallery to the block is the latest in a series of arts-centric announcements from developer Jeff Edwards of Edwards Companies, who is also spearheading the installation of a large hanging artwork installation at the intersection of Gay Street & High Street, and is adding space for public art displays across the street at the base of a new 15-story building that was approved last fall.
“Years ago, I envisioned a thriving downtown filled with locally-owned restaurants and businesses, and I’m thrilled to welcome Sarah to the neighborhood,” said Edwards. “I’ve known her as a client and respect not only her eye for art but her business acumen, and I believe Sarah Gormley Gallery will draw new visitors from Columbus and around the country.”
