Shop Talk: Clintonville Antique Mall Returns After Brief Hiatus

Eclectiques Antique Mall is reopening its doors this weekend with a new owner and a fresh look.

Located at 3265 N. High St. in Clintonville, the antique mall closed in mid-March for renovations. The shop reopens today, Friday, April 29 with an updated interior and more vendors, Owner Abbey Simeral said.

Simeral became the official owner on March 1. She had been a vendor at Eclectiques for four years and purchased it from the previous owner, Regis Hudock, after his passing in the fall of 2021.

Simeral said some of the renovations include new floors, fresh paint and updated showcases.

The space now has more than 60 vendors, including Simeral. She said some of the original vendors with high performance reviews are returning, as well as new vendors, many of which Simeral has known her whole life.

This may be Simeral’s first time owning an antique mall, but she’s been in the business for a long time.

“I was born into a family of antiques,” she said.

Simeral’s parents own the Heart of Ohio Antique Center in Springfield, Ohio. She said her father was a leading antique dealer in the industry for roughly 50 years and her mother later joined him.

“Most of my life was traveling and I was helping them buy and load containers of antiques starting back when I was 6 years old, so it’s been a long-lasting venture in antiques,” Simeral said.

She said she is generally a mid-century vendor. Some of her products include vintage clothing and pottery, now located on the building’s lower level.

Also on the lower level is a space for rotating pop-up exhibits featuring local artists and their work. Some of the featured artists include Alyssa Justus of Lit Candle Co. and Joshua Schottenstein Pottery, according to Eclectiques’ website.

Despite growing up in the antique business, owning an antique mall wasn’t something Simeral expected.

“I probably said that I would never own my own antique mall, and here I am,” Simeral said. “It’s come full circle.”

Eclectiques Antique Mall will kick off its Grand Reopening Weekend Friday, April 29 at 3265 N. High St. The event will feature Yatai Coffee on Friday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Rosie the Flower Truck on Sunday, May 1 from 1 – 3 p.m.

The shop is open daily from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. More information about Eclectiques’ vendors can be found at shopeclectiques.com.
