Last night, another winter fire was occurring, this time on the South Side in an abandoned foundry and manufacturing site. Ice was again a problem with extinguishing the flames, but it was reported as mostly being out by 11:30 last night.
The Parsons corridor has been home to several fires over the past year, many of which have occurred in vacant homes or buildings. The South Side has long been labeled as a spot for urban renewal and renovation with projects including the Techniglas site redevelopment, the new development at the former original Schottensteins location, and the joint neighborhood plan developed by the communities of Schumacher Place and Merion Village.
